2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Change Comes After Poor Reception
The new appointee steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified staff about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement echoes a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It uncovered the requirement for a sharper identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the criticism to heart and overhauled the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s poised to deliver on its potential to our audience.

Brinkman currently holds the role of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He earlier worked at major gaming companies in various production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year alongside a public demo. Then, the developers presented the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the category."
